A response to idiocy

I receive many of the various jokes and such that float around the Net, many of them from my Mom. She also sends me some of the right-wing stuff and Christian espousing tracts that show up. I usually ignore them but I had to respond to this one, titled "Re: : Is it funny or scary? Thingie". I sent the response back to my mom and to those people on the To: and Cc: list. I wonder if they'll read it with an open mind. Note that nowhere in the message do I say that I'm not Christian…

The only modifications I've made to the original message (in italics) is to clean up the formatting. My response is in roman. I've tried to follow somewhat of the format of the original in pondering if something is funny or scary.

If I've made any errors about Christian belief in here, I'd love to hear about it so that I can be accurate. There's no sense responding to the idiots if you give incorrect information.

One Sunday morning during service, a 500 member congregation was surprised to see two men enter, both covered from head to toe in black and carrying submachine guns. One of the men proclaimed,"Anyone willing to take a bullet for Christ remain where you are."

Immediately, the choir fled, the deacons fled, and most of the congregation fled. Out of the 500 there only remained around 20.

The man who had spoken took off his hood, looked at the preacher and said "Okay Pastor, I got rid of all the hypocrites. Now you may begin your service. Have a nice day!" And the two men turned and walked out.

Funny or Scary:
Christians talk about following the Prince of Peace are more interested in being righteous than being accepting. That they'd prefer those whose "faith is pure" rather than those who aren't sure of where they are at but are trying to get the message of Christ into their hearts.

Funny how simple it is for people to trash God ... and then wonder why the world is in the condition it is today..

Funny or Scary:
Christians have been told that the world is treacherous and full of sin and they will get their reward in the ever-after. The wonder of God's creation gets trashed; resurrection is coming soon anyway, right? Then they wonder why the world is in the condition it is today.

Funny how we believe what the newspapers say, but question what the Bible says.

Funny or Scary:
Christians read the bible and read how Jesus spoke in allegory in a milieu of 2000 years ago and expect to apply what the Bible says literally.

Funny how everyone wants to go to heaven provided they do not have to believe, think, say, or do anything the Bible says.

Funny or Scary:
Some Christians think that to get into Heaven, you must believe, think, say, and do what the Bible says when all that you must do is accept Jesus the Christ as your personal Saviour.

Funny how someone can say "I believe in God" but still follow Satan (who, by the way, also "believes"in God).

Funny or Scary:
For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
So many Christians think God erred here and are quite willing to "help God out" by condemning the world.

Funny how you can send a thousand 'jokes' through e-mail and they spread like wildfire, but when you start sending messages regarding the Lord, people think twice about sharing.

Funny or Scary:
There are people out there that expect a message telling the reader how bad and wrong they are will propagate as well as the same idea told in a humorous way containing a message of acceptance in the light of Christ's teachings.

Funny how the lewd, crude, vulgar and obscene pass freely through cyberspace, but the public discussion of Jesus is suppressed in the school and work place.

Funny or Scary:
There are people out there who take two completely different environments such as say, a public forum, and say, a state-sponsored forum, and expect no one to notice they are different and/or that the same rules should apply to both.

Funny, isn't it? Funny how someone can be so fired up for Christ on Sunday, but be an invisible Christian the rest of the week.

Nope. This one is just scary.

Funny how I can be more worried about what other people think of me than what God thinks of me.

Funny or Scary:
There are people out there that would prefer to think they know what God wants rather than teaching the Word of God through good example.

Funny or Scary:
There are people out there decrying that their message of calumny won't get propagated because "people aren't brave enough" but don't sign their own name to the message.
